Fitting Instructions.
A vehicle’s oil filter should be replaced at the correct stage of the engine/vehicle manufacturer’s servicing schedule. Failure to replace the oil filter within the correct time or mileage can increase the risk of engine wear and damage.
It is recommended that the oil filter is replaced by an experienced and qualified motorcycle technician.
Installing a new oil filter;
• Ensure a suitable drip-tray is located under the engine for oil collection
• Remove the oil drain bolt to drain the oil from engine
• Remove the old oil filter using a suitable tool (see opposite)
• Clean the oil drain bolt, then reinstall to engine
• Check that the new filter is the same specification as the old (eg height, width, diameter, canister thread)
• Part fill the new filter with the new engine oil *, slowly rotate the filter by hand to allow the oil to absorb into the filter material
• Apply a thin film of clean engine oil over the sealing ring
• Clean around the filter contact area of the engine, and wipe a thin film of clean engine oil where the filter will contact
• Fit the new filter as per engine/vehicle manufacturer’s instruction
• Add new engine oil* to correct level (remember to stand bike upright to check oil level)
• Clean and reinstall the oil filler cap
• Run the engine to running temperature, then check for any leaks around the filter, drain bolt and filler cap
• Allow the oil to settle and recheck the level. Top up with more engine oil if necessary
• Dispose of old oil responsibly and correctly to protect the public and environment. Guidelines can be found from local authorities for correct collection and disposal. * use the correct oil specification as recommended by the engine/vehicle manufacturer.
